Steel Price in the Market on August 10, 2026
Aug 11, 2026
Rebar: On August 10, the average price of 20mm Grade III seismic-resistant rebar in 31 major cities across China was 3,217 yuan/ton, down 7 yuan/ton from the previous trading session. Specifically, early trading saw futures prices continuing to fluctuate at low levels, with spot prices in most domestic cities remaining weakly stable and largely unchanged, though some experienced minor declines. After the market opened, trading activity was subdued, with dealers maintaining steady quotations. End-users made purchases based on demand, while a pronounced wait-and-see sentiment persisted.
Hot-rolled coil: On August 10, the average price of 4.75mm hot-rolled coils in 24 major cities across China was 3,261 yuan/ton, down 2 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. Supply-wise, recent maintenance plans have gradually increased, and steel mills have slightly reduced production due to profit compression, though the overall supply reduction is not substantial, with feedback remaining average. Demand-wise, overall transaction performance was average, with orders procured as needed due to the off-season effect.
Cold-rolled coil: On August 10, the average price of 1.0mm cold-rolled coils in 24 major cities across China was 3,773 yuan/ton, down 1 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. The market exhibited clear characteristics of a slack demand season, with intermediaries lacking enthusiasm for cross-regional trading, resulting in relatively inactive transaction activity. Steel mills faced certain gaps in orders for specialty steel products in August, while the supply of general material resources increased slightly, leading to relatively ample overall market resources. Although inventory pressure remained manageable, the stock rotation cycle was slow, with the majority of inventory pressure concentrated among major players.
Medium-thick plates: On August 10, the average price of 20mm general plates in 24 major cities across the country was 3,493 yuan/ton, remaining unchanged from the previous trading day. In East China, typhoon impacts led to weaker trading performance throughout the day, with some order customers unable to pick up their goods until the next day. Afternoon rainfall decreased, allowing self-pickup at Jiangyin Xinxi Port. End-user procurement remained sluggish, resulting in a market trading environment. Last week, two maintenance steel mills resumed production, leading to increased capacity utilization and output. Most steel mills continued to focus on producing high-profit premium-grade plates while reducing the supply of general carbon medium-thick plates under agreement.
